Minsk Oblast and Switzerland strengthen relations

Relations between the Minsk region and the regions of Switzerland should reach a qualitatively new level. This opinion was expressed by the chairman of Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Alexander Turchin at a meeting with the chairman of the Switzerland-Belarus Friendship Association Margaret Keener Nellen.

During the previous dialogue in February, possible areas of cooperation between the two states were identified. Priority is education and medicine.

“Switzerland actively helped Belarus in the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident, more than 600 of your children have recovered. And now I would like to continue this work. On the eve of meeting with you, we visited Gomel Oblast, including the closed zone, as well as the N.N. Alexandrov RSPC Oncology and Medical Radiology. It was previously planned that during the summer visit to Belarus the delegation of Switzerland will include doctors who will provide advice to their Belarusian colleagues on the spot and share their experience in treating diseases. Coronavirus pandemic has made adjustments. However, we will not change our plans and in the fall we will try to bring doctors,” said Margaret Keener Nellen.

The chairman of the Switzerland-Belarus Friendship Association also emphasized that the Swiss side is not refusing cooperation between Belarusian universities and the medical faculty of the University of Bern and institutes with specialization in the field of economics. This issue is currently being worked out.

“Everything that we planned should be implemented. They should receive a continuation of ideas and developments in the medical field, in joint educational programs. And, of course, in economics, trade, and investment. Between our countries there are good prospects for cooperation in many areas. We will continue to actively interact. I am sure that we will do much more for the development of bilateral relations,” said Alexander Turchin.

The Chairman of Minsk Oblast Executive Committee noted the great contribution of Margaret Keener Nellen in strengthening friendship between our peoples and congratulated her on receiving a high award - the Order of Francisc Skorina.
